Today, everyone is focused on maximizing their output.

This craze with hyper-productivity leads us down the path of shortcuts, tips, and tricks. Often these tricks help us in a short time and then we are back to where we started.

We need an ultimate productivity framework that we can apply to any situation. A basic rule that helps us evaluate decisions that we can apply under any circumstance.

Here’s one, the ultimate productivity hack that I recently discovered was saying NO.

Simple, isn’t it?

But simplicity is the essence of life and answers to most of our questions are uncomplicated. We overanalyze and make them complex.

Saying NO is the ultimate productivity hack

When you say No to a thing, you are saving your time in the future. It’s like a time credit

When you say Yes to a thing, you are spending your time in the future. It’s like a time debit.

Here’s what economist Tim Harford put it,

“Every time we say yes to a request, we are also saying no to anything else we might accomplish with the time.” Once you have committed to something, you have already decided how that future block of time will be spent.

Save your time by saying no often.

Do not accept responsibility just to placate the other person.

When you are in the habit of appeasing everybody, you are spending your own time on that task. The time that you will never get back.

Do not give away your time willy-nilly to anybody that asks for it.

Your time must be spent consciously on things you consider necessary to your progress.

You should help, but don’t do it at the expense of your own goals.

Do not waste time for someone else that you could have spent on your own dreams.

Thus, if you say No often you spend that time on your work, making saying no the ultimate productivity hack.

When you spend enough time on yourself your productivity will naturally increase.

Guard your time. Treat it sacred. If you do that you will respect it and spend it wisely.

And what better way to spend it than on your own goals, dreams and progress.
