What is your code?
Set of rules that you live your life by.
Do you have a set of rules that you live by in your life?
I don’t know about you, but I am trying to create some rules for mine. The code that I can live by my whole life. A framework through which I can judge my own actions, make decisions, and plan my future.
Life is unpredictable. Having a code can help bring in some stability to it.
Following are some of the rules contained in my code:
To be kind
This world is full of misery, suffering, and sadness.
Each person is fighting his own battle, trying to live another day. Keeping that in mind, I try to be kind to every person I meet. I don’t know what they are going through so I always lead with kindness in my behavior towards them.
Kindness makes other people open and welcoming. It breaks barriers. It brings people closer together.
The rule of kindness applies to animals, plants, and all other lifeforms too. For example, if I see any animal hungry, I try to feed him.
Kindness helps build trust between people.
To be non-judgemental
Diversity is the essence of life. We are all different in some way or the other. These differences create distrust, hatred, and animosity between people.
To avoid these negative feelings I try not to judge people who are different than me.
Generally, people are caring. But unfamiliarity breeds mistrust. When we don’t know other people we often doubt them. We create a negative portrait in our minds about them and then just confirm our bias from thereon.
I make no such assumptions.
My goal is always to understand people, and their actions before labeling them or judging them.
To be open-minded
As we age, we become set in our ways of thinking.
This is often said and is true also. But who says you can’t challenge your existing beliefs and thoughts?
You can, and you must.
A person who is rigid and closed-minded will never be happy or he will be filled with hate for other people who are different than him.
I consciously try to challenge my existing beliefs and create new ones. It is not a weakness.
Only a few brave people can do this because if we challenge our beliefs we signal our brain that what we believed in til now is wrong. That makes us question our identity too if the beliefs that are being challenged spring from our childhood.
This is really not an easy process because this process can make you realize that you are wrong. Nobody likes to be wrong.
If you do however succeed to dissociate your identity from your beliefs, you will be able to open your mind to an unlimited set of possibilities and new horizons.
There is so much to learn, and you will be ready for it.
Never discourage others
Most people lack in their lives an encouraging voice. Negativity, however, is all around us. Amidst all that negativity a person who uplifts others is like a breath of fresh air.
I never ever discourage anyone from following their dreams and in general life as well.
These are some of the rules that I have included in my code.
I am always adding in more. I will update this as I keep adding more rules to it.
What is your code? What rules do you live your life by?
I write on my blog daily. This is day 45 of my daily writing challenge for 2022. I write on whatever interests me. There is no word limit. I am doing this simply to become a better writer. Tag along and follow my journey as I write every single day for an entire year.
